After days of heavy food, it’s time to enjoy something light instead. Seafood noodle seemed to fit the bill, so off we went to Pong Kee at Jalan Ipoh.
Pong Kee has been around for more than twenty years and they specialize in Teochew-style seafood porridge and noodles. Light but tasty soup aside, fresh ingredients are also the core of their delicious offerings.
Instead of ordering from their preset menu, I usually customize my order to include only the seafood I felt like having. Oyster is a must for me because it’s so hard to get really fresh ones in the city.
This time, I went slightly overboard while ordering so the noodle cost me RM27.50. But as you can see, it was loaded with plenty of seafood so it’s worth the price.
To save myself from repeating the same thing – everything was superbly fresh and beautifully cooked. The Ming prawns had their shells removed and deveined, so eating them was a breeze.
Regardless of their sizes, all the oysters tasted the same – plump, juicy and sweet.
The same goes for the clams (sha bak) which were served without their hard shells. Just perfect.

On the other hand, SL had the dry noodle with barramundi (siakap) @ RM12. It might feel expensive meal but they also have affordable options such as fish ball noodles, lala noodles and oyster noodles which are all under RM10.
Depending on the time of your arrival, some fishes may have sold out but the common ones like siakap, salmon grouper are usually available. Another Teochew seafood noodle stall you can consider is Soon Kee in Selayang. Both of them are equally good.
