Ngiu Chap Wong had a humble beginning as a hawker stall in Damansara Perdana. They are well known for their Kota Kinabalu style beef noodles and mixed beef, fondly known as ‘Ngiu Chap’ by the locals. So that’s how their name came about.
The owners take great pride in their MSG-free food and they insist on using only Australian beef in their dishes. Taking those into account, I find the menu reasonably priced, moreover considering it’s Hartamas.
For something savory, it’d be hard to go wrong with the Fried Beef Hor Fun @ RM14. The flavorsome gravy is rich tasting but not gluggy, while the beef are sliced to the right thickness and cooked to tender perfection.
The lady boss highly recommended us to try their pot stickers (5 pcs @ RM5) and it was spot on delicious, value for money too! I am just going to parrot her in recommending the same too.
And of course we didn’t leave without try their signature beef noodle. The Mixed Beef Noodle @ RM12 is topped with handmade beef balls, sliced beef, tendon and tripe by default. Compared to other beef noodles, the soup here looks light but that doesn’t mean it lacked in flavor.
Ngiu Chap Wong also offers a range of non-beef related dishes, one of them being the Alaskan Cod in premium soy sauce @ RM20. The portion size is unexpectedly large, so it’s best shared by two or more people.
Overall, the fish is understandably inferior to black cod in both taste and texture. But you should know it would have cost triple and maybe even more if it was a black cod of that size.
All in all, the meal was satisfyingly good and I like that their food is unpretentious, just straightforward and prepared with quality in mind. The overall experience was also made more memorable by the friendly and warm service rendered.
